The SBA Research Center

To encourage growth in the publishing and creative industries, Sharjah Book Authority invests in the community through grants and professional programmes. SBA believes that understanding diverse cultures is essential for creating harmony. Making the literature of these cultures more accessible is an important part in that understanding.

Translation Grants

SBA’s Translation Grant initiative receives hundreds of applications every year. So far, the grant has helped translate books from or to English, Arabic, Turkish, Thai, French, German, Italian, Bosnian, Hungarian, and more.

The Grant was launched at the 30th annual SIBF

to promote the translation movement in the Arab. We accomplish this through cash grants awarded to help publishers translate their work into other languages. The grant is valued at $1,500 for children’s books and up to $4,000 for all other titles. This covers the cost of translation fully or partially.

Professional
Programme

The SBA Professional Programme runs annually prior to the SIBF in November. The grant is issued in order to protect intellectual property and facilitate transfer rights, in line with our commitment to international law. Other grants are awarded to support research in areas of public interest.
