In keeping with the Sharjah Book Authority’s primary purpose to develop the printing and publishing sector and encourage investment in creative industries whilst providing a platform for knowledge and educational exchange, investment is being made in research.

Funding for specific research projects is authorised through this division of the SBA including the Translation Grant Fund. This was launched during the 30th edition of SIBF to promote the translation movement in the Arab region through cash grants awarded to publishers to help them translate their publications into other languages. The grant is valued at $1,500 for children’s books and up to $4,000 for all other titles, helping publishers cover the translation costs of the title fully or partially.

The SIBF Translation Grant receives hundreds applications every year and so far has translated.
